DUTIES OF A “LEAD” In Pairs, Triples, and Fours
Home team lead tosses the
coin and visiting lead calls.
Lead of winning end places
mat on line where SKIP requests.
Lead of losing end picks up
and hands Jack to winning lead.
All bowls are then located a
minimum of 4 feet behind mat.
Lead of winning end rolls
jack along line to where SKIP indicates.
Both leads jobs now is to
build a head, in other words bowl as close to the Jack as possible, unless
instructed otherwise by the SKIP.
Must carry a measure in
pairs, and have the ability to use same.
Must not talk to the SKIP,
only answer any question the SKIP may ask!
After completing their bowls,
leads exit green and remain on bank.
DUTIES OF A “SECOND” In Triples, and Fours
The Second’s job also is to
build the head, in other words bowl as close to the Jack as possible, unless
instructed otherwise by the SKIP.
Must carry a measure in
triples, and have the ability to use same.
In Triples should carry white
bowls cloth as fingers cannot be seen from other end.
Must not talk to the SKIP,
only answer any question the SKIP may ask!
After completing their bowls,
Seconds join Leads on the bank.
DUTIES OF A “THIRD” In Fours
The Third is usually selected
in this team position for the following points.
1.Knowledge of being able to
read a head.
2.Have the ability to drive.
3.Must carry a measure, and
have the ability to use same.
4.In Fours should carry white
bowls cloth as fingers cannot be seen from other end.
The Third’s job is to add
shots to the head, in other words bowl as close to the Jack as possible, unless
instructed otherwise by the SKIP.
The Third may advise the SKIP
only if seeing any advantage or change to the head, otherwise remain
silent.
DUTIES OF A “SKIPPER”
Must have the ability to
drive.
Must have the ability to read
a head.
Must carry the score card and
pen, and enter score immediately after completion of end.
In inter-club matches, both
skips keep score cards, but in minor comps one skip holds the card and the
other skip maintains the scoreboard.
